The Paths
Between the 10 Sephirah are 22 joining Paths.  To use a metaphor, if the Tree is a sentence, then the Sephirah are the nouns and the Paths are the verbs.  The Paths provide an understanding of the transition between the states of being expressed in the Sephirah.   (Actually, in the context of Kabbalistic thought, the Sephirah are also considered "paths" -- hence the expression of the "32 Paths of Wisdom" -- but for the sake of clarity, we will address the 22 Paths as elements of the Tree unique from the Sephirah themselves.)

To understand and apply the archetypal forms of the Sephirah, it is helpful to also understand the process that links them.  The Paths (numbered 11 through 32) serve as expressions of transition, a focus of energy between two unique, interrelated points of awareness.  Remember that the Tree of Life expresses the unity of all things, and the paths illuminate the energy processes that join the many into one.

It has become established practice to equate the 22 paths with the 22 Major Arcana of the classic Tarot deck.  This is supported in this document as a rich source of imagery and context for the working of the Paths.  The symbolism of the Major Arcana provide a more intimate and personal connection to the sometimes abstract expression of the Paths.  Also, the Tarot associations provide alternative avenues of exploration and study for the inspired seeker.
