| Dragon Queen
Companion piece of the Dragon
King, There was never any doubt that - of
the two - she would be the more powerful visual element.
Unlike in nature (where the female's appearance is usually
much more subdued than the male), this lady would wear
her power openly and proudly. She required that I create
a differnet headpiece mold in order to give her a unique
and more grand appearance than her mate.
One of the interesting elements of the
Kaballistic Tree of Life image is the fact that the
femenine 'pillar' is entitled the "Pillar of Severity".
That always struck me as being in direct conflict with
the feminine essence, a contradiction that is echoed
in the existence of so many dieties of death and destruction
bearing a feminine form.
It actually makes perfect sense. It
is the woman who gives form to life, who takes the inifinite
spectrum of genetic possibility and trims away all other
possibilities but one, and then gives it life. The power
to define a form implies a cutting away of all that
is NOT that form, a merciless paring away of all other
potential. Without this essential "cutting of threads",
there would be nothing but Chaos. So while human experience
by evolve a fear of death and destruction, it is that
very ending that holds the promise of new beginnings.
The Dragon Queen may appear cruel, but
she is both the vessel of all things and the cutter
of threads.
