Dragon King - Hydrocal plaster with acrylic and gold foil RETURN TO SCULPTURE GALLERY

Dragon King
This piece - and its mate, the Dragon Queen, were formed from individual pieces cast separately and then arranged to form unique works. The gold headdress of the king was formed of the element used in the Talon Cross with the figure's face drawn from a first study of sculpting the human form.

When I first started playing with the arrangement, there was an exotic quality that appealed to me. These figures had the bearing of divine rulers, priest-kings and queens that ruled on multiple levels of their domains. The dragon is an archetypal form that holds great power for me, so it was a natural extension of my own mind to associate the draconic energy to this powerful beings.
