3 Runes - Hydrocal plaster with acrylic RETURN TO SCULPTURE GALLERY

3 Runes
This piece didn't turn out at all as I intended, but it was striking - and a bit disturbing in a squishy fleshy sort of way - so I let it be what it became. There's a time for the Artist to exert his/her will and a time to submit to the will of the work. My original intent was to create a dynamic, almost explosive radiance emerging from the focal runes; the end result was a fleshy womb-like feeling that seems to be reaching out for some unpleasant purpose.

The runes featured in this work are more creations from my period of exploring glyphs and sigils (see the Portal Glyph series in the Digital Art Gallery). I'm fascinated by runes and glyphs. These two-dimensional renderings of a multi-dimensional concept can be enormously useful in personal discovery and exploration.

Imagine if you could measure an idea, it's length, width, and depth laid out before you. If such thing could even have a form, imagine removing a thin slice from the middle of that idea and laying it on the floor. What you would see would be the runic symbol of that idea. The strokes and curves of the rune are the intersections of the idea's matrix with our reality... or maybe they're just cool looking lines. Everybody decides for themselves.
