The Dance - Hydrocal plaster with acrylic wash RETURN TO SCULPTURE GALLERY

The Dance
This piece one First Place in a Black & White Art competition in St. Louis. It's a fairly direct variation on the Yin-Yang symbol with the classic black and white circles being replaced by one of my favorite anthropomorphic manifestations: the Dragon.

The dragon figures were created in clay and then coated in a thick layer of liquid latex. This became the mold for the Hydrocal plaster. The background piece was a thick piece of plywood that received a thick coating of plaster as a base and then another coat for the texturing as to adhere the dragon forms. Then multiple passes with a paper towel soaked with diluted black acrylic paint finished off the piece.
