This piece was commissioned to accompany an article
on urban living. The article was never published but
the piece remains.
While I have no desire to live in an
urban center like Chicago or New York, the places themselves
hold a great facination. Millions of people crowded
into a few square miles, living with all the diversity
and passion of the human spirit. All that energy and
desire creates a rich tapestry of connection, generating
great spires of dreams and pursuits.
I always imagined the "spirit-side"
of a city to be a maelstrom of passion, with radiant
flares where the strength of many is banded into a single
purpose. So many purposes... so many dreams... crowded
into a single area, layered and woven together into
a vast lightscape called "The City".
